More On The Orchid Society
Lake Tahoe survived terrible economic conditions in recent years. The North shore business district and communities faced the toughest struggles as Reno-Gazette Journal explained. Natural disaster played a pivotal role in the cycle. The prolonged political strife to incorporate Olympic Valley has put some strain on the region. Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC powerhouse chief executive and philanthropist, Andy Wirth did put up a fierce fight. With the Placer County Board of Supervisors ruling to not incorporate Olympic Valley, Wirth has directed focus on community development needs.
The disapproval of Olympic Valley incorporation left supporters disgruntled. In fact, Wirth has silenced propaganda about his motives to oppose the cause. He explained how an incorporation could devastate the region, especially neighboring communities that pool Olympic Valley resources. It’s apparent that without Olympic Valley the fiscal and economic struggles of these districts would worsen. In fact, Wirth raised reasonable arguments about taxation and other concerns. The long-term outlook of an incorporation isn’t feasible as both residents and business operators stand to lose. With the political strife dissolved, Wirth revealed a grand vision to monetize the region’s real estate, tourism opportunities, and business dynamics.
A SierraSun exclusive elaborated on Andy Wirth appointment as RAAB (Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority) board chairman in 2013. The cooperation engaged a group of insightful, talented profiles, Andy Wirth included. Other newly elected candidates included Jessica Sferrazza, Jennifer Rose, and Lisa Gianoli. A prolific executive, Wirth commanded numerous roles, especially in the airline industry. He focused on upgrading air service infrastructure to help support the tourism sector. Powder Magazine did another exclusive report about Wirth erecting a base-to-base gondola.
The plan of connecting Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley, two iconic topographical locations of the ski resort district has been a pipeline dream since 2011. Wirth finally decided to pursue the project. The visionary Wayne Poulsen who founded Squaw Valley conceived the idea about a decade ago. Troy Caldwell, a landowner who occupies a generous piece of property separating the two resort mountains support the gondola initiative Powder Magazine reports. Wirth community development efforts have put Lake Tahoe in the spotlight. In fact, he’s filming the transformation, a CBS TV Network production aired as a segment of the Undercover Boss series.
The philanthropic work Wirth does inspire a global community. The motivation to help the wounded through his newly launched Crowdrise campaign comes from personal experience. Wirth came close to death, having survived a devastating skydiving accident Fall 2013.
The journey of recovering presented tough challenges which Worth overcame. The Ironman Triathlon program was an instrumental resource in his recovery process. The experience birthed a friendship which Wirth celebrates today. He’s launched a Crowdrise, a tribute to his U.S. Navy Seal comrades that aided him during training. The campaign supports the NSF (Navy Seal Foundation) which funds NAVSPECWARCOM (Naval Special Warfare Community) returning officers and their families.

Their plans and strategies are not relevant for the seniors’ lifestyle as well. They were created to suit conditions that these people can no longer afford. As the years go on and more businesses come into fruition, technology forces many of them to adapt and change to the environment. Coriant, a telecommunications company, is just one example of how technology is pushing everything forward.
Coriant is the name of an independent telecom company that first came into being back in 2013. Originally, the company was a part of the larger Nokia Siemens Networks, which in turn was owned by Marlin Equity Partners. On May the Sixth of 2013, the company declared its own independence and operated as its own entity, after having merged with another company called Sycamore earlier. Only just recently, Marlin Equity has taken steps to merge with Coriant and Tellabs, another telecom company, as the whole group together will be run as Coriant.
Kheradpir was recently named the CEO of the company, after having spent plenty of time working closely with the vendors and team specialists to support the company and finding new avenues of success. He replaces former CEO Pat DiPietro, who is now serving as the vice chairman of Coriant.
Kheradpir is a London native who spent a large chunk of his youth living in Iran. After completing his high school years, he moved to the United States and attended Cornell University. While there he earned his bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in the field of electrical engineering. Upon completing his college studies, Kheradpir grabbed his first job at GTE Laboratories, where he worked as a network routing manager. He was so good at this job he was given a promotion to chief information officer of the company. Shortly afterwards in 2000, GTE and Bell Atlantic merged to form Verizon, where he remained the CIO. While at Verizon, he was responsible for multiple feats, including reducing the spending budget for the company and reducing the number of information technology staff needed to run everything. He also negotiated with vendors to reduce their spending prices.
In March of 2014 the High Court of South Africa opened the trial of Oscar Pistorius for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. He was also charged with several gun related charges, and in September of 2014 a verdict of not guilty was returned on the murder charge, but guilty of the culpable homicide (unlawful negligent killing of a human being) and reckless endangerment with a firearm. Pistorius received a sentence of five years for the homicide and three year suspended prison sentence for the separate reckless endangerment conviction.
Pistorius won fame as a South African runner with a disability competing at high levels. He competed at multiple Paralympic Games including the 2012 Summer Olympics. Steenkamp was his girlfriend and was shot by Pistorius who claimed he thought she was an intruder. When he was taken into custody, Pistorius admitted shooting her but claimed he did not realize it was her.
Brenda Wardle is Chief of Operations of the Wardle College of Law and a journalist. She covered the trial extensively. Proceedings of the trial were played out in the international media and Pistorius almost got away with the murder. Wardle, a legal analyst, was critical of the whole thing from the beginning and knew it was not being handled properly by either side. She helped the public see how terribly the government was handling the trial.
Wardle was able to turn public opinion so that the pressure stayed on the prosecution until Pistorius finally received real jail time. She continuously kept the public updated on the trial while keeping her personal opinion out of her posts. She appeared on TV almost every day and unraveled the story Pistorius was telling by showing how ridiculous it was without twisting words. Through her updates people took a look for themselves on the information being given through the trial.
With this increased pressure being applied by the public with Wardle’s encouragement, the defense filed papers in September 2015 arguing the judge’s findings that Pistorius did not intend to kill Steenkamp. This argument was not allowed. The parole review board put off their decision for two weeks.
At the end of September 2015 the Supreme Court of Appeal confirmed the appeal and in November when they met they overturned the verdict. The verdict was upgraded to a conviction of murder, stating the lower court did not apply the rule of dolus eventualis and the claim that Pistorius was making about fearing for his life was not justified.
Pistorius will remain free on bail and can only travel within 20km of his house during the hours of 7 a.m. and noon. He will appeal the conviction in South Africa’s Constitutional Court. If the higher court does not agree to hear the appeal, he will be back in court in April 2016.
